Most human data comes from chamomile extract studies rather than isolated apigenin. This makes direct dosing comparisons harder but gives us the best clinical evidence available.
Researchers gave adults with chronic insomnia either 270 mg of chamomile extract twice daily or a placebo for 28 days. Sleep measures like sleep time, efficiency, and how long it took to fall asleep did not differ between the groups. A second study tested 400 mg of chamomile extract twice daily for four weeks in older adults. The extract improved sleep quality scores compared to placebo. Adib-Hajbaghery and Mousavi, 2017. This group matters because sleep changes with age, and sleep drugs carry more risks for older people.
The honest read: the evidence is real, especially for daytime functioning and how you feel you slept. The studies are small. There's no large-scale, long-term data on isolated apigenin alone. This doesn't invalidate the compound. It just shows where it actually stands.
