The promise is alertness, vitality, and lasting energy. The compound behind the label, thymoquinone, is real and has been studied. The energy claim, however, is not what the research shows.
Where the Energy Claim Comes From
Thymoquinone is the main active ingredient in Nigella sativa, the flowering plant whose pressed seeds have been used in Middle Eastern and South Asian cooking for centuries. Modern scientific interest is justified - the compound has been studied in dozens of disease models, and research shows it affects many biological processes. A 2023 overview of systematic reviews on Nigella sativa and health found the strongest evidence for inflammation, blood sugar control, and cholesterol.
